Yeah shame because I think he is probably one of the best we have at the moment. He did the 2016 FA cup final on the line already, not sure if that would make him less likely at all.

The Ref Stop
Crystal Palace FC v Aston Villa
Referee Anthony Taylor
Minor tangent:
Am I the only one that finds this appointment bizarre? Refereeing Palace in a cup semi 3 weeks after sending 2 of their players off in a derby? I know they were both the right decision but I just find it a bit bizarre.

Certainly know there's some Palace fans somewhat annoyed but it's definitely better than some of the other candidates. Probably would've preferred Oliver but can't change that now.

Least it's not Sam Barrot 🫣

Not sure what you have against Sam Barrot but he is genuinely a very very bright prospect. My tip to replace Oliver and Taylor at the top.

It anyone wants to see best practise fitness movement and positioning Sam Barrot is THE referee to watch.

Probably after the weekend just gone and the Brentford game earlier this season. Unfortunately, he's just made some incorrect decisions and have all negatively affected us and arguably cost points 🤣

EDIT: Just also don't think he's been as good in comparison to some of the referees potentially in the running for the FA cup final too.

Agree, the best prospect I have seen for a long time. Looks completely natural and makes it look effortless, yes he has made a couple of mistakes but so does every referee no matter how good they are.

He's unbelievable physically!

I disagree, I think people are just looking at his age and think he's got potential but he has made some notable errors this season which if it happened in a big top of the table clash would be even more noteworthy.

For me the referees to replace Taylor/Oliver are Brooks and Kavanagh with the latter I think just looks so calm and assured. Hopefully he won't get any injuries again because he did had that spell a few years back where injuries did seem to hamper his progress.

As for the FA Cup final, I'll go for a bit of a left field choice and think Darren England may get his chance. I do feel he gets somewhat underused for the big clashes despite being a FIFA referee.

No, I'm looking at his refereeing performances, his fitness and positioning, his calmness, etc. What notable errors are you referring to?

I'm sorry but to be trusted with the games he has been suggests his employers don't share the same view as you.

Quite simply, every referee, has made a mistake this season, some more notable than others but Sam Barrot has made no more or no less than his counterparts.

Next time you watch him pay attention to his movement, positioning and fitness and you will see the foundations of one of the best referees for many years to come. Not based on age but the traits he is displaying

He came to a RA meeting I attended a few months ago whereby he is also very modest & humble - some more good traits.

Well time will tell on that one for sure but he can have all the best movement and fitness but it's the decision making that most people will judge him on and if he's making errors on TV games especially then it will be picked up for sure.

I will caveat that virtually most PL referees are much better than they are portrayed though and I would trust most of them to be able to do a top of the table clash(including Sam Barrott), it's very rare from what I see when a referee has lost control of a game for example.

I reckon Sam Barrott will be in consideration for the Championship Play-Off Final and/or next season's Community Shield. I don't, however, believe he has any chance of the FA Cup Final this season. That is purely because he isn't yet a very experienced PL ref, having only spent 1 full season in SG1, and having only refereed 35 PL games so far in his career. He is definitely good enough to take charge of big games, but the FA Cup Final is probably out of the question for him at the minute.
Edit: a quick stats search tells me he has only refereed 61 games in total across the PL and Championship in his career. Most who get the FA Cup final have done well over 200/300 first.

I agree with this.
