Deliberate Trick?

An indirect free kick is awarded if a goalkeeper, inside their penalty area, commits any of the following offences:
- touches the ball with the hand/arm, unless the goalkeeper has clearly kicked or attempted to kick the ball to release it into play, after:
- it has been deliberately kicked to the goalkeeper by a team-mate
The player’s actions are very clearly designed to circumvent the law - as confirmed by the IFAB Circular mentioned above. You can question IFAB's interpretation all you want, but you're not credible arguing against something IFAB has stated explicitly.

Ah if only we could all follow everything ifab has said and every bit of content of the book word for word without caring for why and the context they were meant for.

There are two requirements for OP to be penalised, it is a trick, it is to circumvent the law. Both of which are subjective decisions. You make yours and I make mine. And l am comfortable with not agreeing with you or you not agreeing with me 😊

You could save yourself some angst and ask if the guidance is still current.

Right now this is confusing for a casual reader or newb if we have a well respected member erm “on one” like this🥳

The latest guidance when I searched was a Ref Chat submission from @one in June 2021:
"Don't get yourself in a knot with the word trick. The intent here is not that. It's that the player knows he can't kick the ball to the goal keeper to pick up after being in posession of it with the foot. He also know he can pass the ball to the keeper to pick up without using the foot. So if to circumvent the former, they use the latter that becomes an offence.

In other words, the focus of this law is not around using a trick, it's around circumventing the law."
Hope that helps🤔
