Be careful where you park

Just reported on Soccer Saturday that today's FA Trophy game between Curzon Aston and Chester was halted for 10 minutes because ....

... the referee had to move his car 😂

Presumably he'd left it causing an obstruction. Don't know how they told him he needed to move it, but suspect he will be a little red faced.

Turns out there was a tannoy announcement giving out the offending car's registration number, so he had to stop the game to go and tell a steward it was his ... 🤦‍♂️ 😂

And they prang it in the car park and you are footing the bill as the insurance certainly won't. Also not all grounds have car parks so could have been on public road, in which case anyone else moving it is illegal.
 
Just a thought, but this season’s lack of refs has once again rightly brought into focus (too often lack of) respect for referees. Wouldn’t a really simple way to show a club values their match officials would be to reserve for them a dedicated parking spot.

Reckon pretty much any club, big or small, could do this, would cost them nothing but generate significant good will. (And prevent this rather farcical & embarrassing situation from occurring)

Experienced this before, car then becomes easy target for disgruntled fans/players.
It also generated a ' oh, special treatment'attitude.

as ever, disclaimer, it might be hassle free elsewhere....

Agreed with this. At our level we’re turning up a little bit later than the players and club staff and it’s always annoying to turn up and find out you need to find some random street parking in a location you’ve never been before!

Indeed, there is no way I would ever park in a space marked as reserved for referees, it is just asking for trouble, especially at a level with paying spectators and alcohol involved.

I used to work with a referee who had customised number plates with his name and REF in them. He wouldn't even park in the same postcode, let alone in a reserved match officials space 😂

Do we know the same folk?!

Ex very top flight had a very obvious reg plate....

he eventually changed them to something still personal, but without the ref

some folks who ref where there are such spots won’t use them. Unless someone is watching the spot, it makes the ref’s car an easy target for disgruntled idiots.

I may give it a thought with CCT not the spot and surround from 3 different angles and signage accordingly 😉
 
Few random related thoughts

1) Had my windscreen smashed by a stray football at a stadium this season
2) Reserved parking spaces at my U23 tonight, but its for match officials and away officials and I assume home officials, so no one is going to know which three cars are ours!
3) A few years ago now a referee did get his car stolen from a ground, thief broke into dressing room, stole keys and went to the car park, and tried the key until it opened a car.
 
Having had all 4 tyres slashed after a last minute penalty in a cup semi final, theres no way in hell im parking in a designated space for the referee, they found my car without it anyway. Wouldn’t mind but the penalty I gave was one of the most blatant shirt pulls I’ve ever given in my life, nearly pulled it completely off
