I made a few changes to the blog a few weeks ago and seems I managed to break it. The plus side is that it still got quite a good number of hits despite it almost dispersing into itself. They seem to be fixed but I'd be interested to see how you access it. This will help me confirm all the ways are fixed. How did you get to the blogMarket Research Continue reading...
Check this video out, its a bit of a different approach to taking a free kick. Technically there is nothing wrong with it. However you could argue its a distraction tactic and maybe if you were that way inclined make them retake it. What's your thoughts on it? Add them to the comments below. So today is July 1st, only 37 Days until my supply league season kicks off. Well not quite true as I have actually closed that day as we have family plans that weekend! How is everyone's summer been going. If your lucky you've been able to relax. If your unlucky you've been training for your fitness test! Over the last few years I have trained for this mainly on an athletics track, after all that where the test is. However this year logistics have meant that it just not been possible. As a result I have been having a confidence crisis going into the test. Its not helped by the fact that I only had one game between January and the end of the season and had done little to none training. So I have been building my fitness back up...
I needed to attend to my Futsal referee roster for some development exercises so I set out to arrange the logistics of issuing my usual Classmarker quiz. I had to generate and manually send out codes to new referees to have access to the quiz but there weren’t very many so it was done quite quickly. I was pleasantly surprised to see the immediate response to the e-mail; almost ten referees had completed it within 24 hours. I felt giving a week was a fair timeline so I’ll see how everyone does. Did I say I love this method? I did all the work a year and a half ago and now I can just issue it and see the marks come up. No muss no fuss. I did some quick scheduling for the rest of the week for the league and decided to try a new...

Following on from yesterdays post about Neymar. It was the second leg of the Copa Libertadores Final between Neymar's Santos and Penarol. At the final whistle it all kicked off. I am so glad that we dont get these problems in England! Just keeping on the whole Neymar theme, Offthepost (where I saw this video) also have a nice photo of Neymar sticking the boot in on an opponent in the resulting fracas. I suspect if he comes to the Premiership its going to be eventful! Continue reading...
Run I managed to try out the Interval testing feature on my Garmin and loved it. It was time-based since Satellite locating doesn’t work indoors so I ran the 30/40 interval with my training partner. It was, of course, exactly what I needed with the High Intensity test. Out of nowhere, a chest/throat infection showed up for me a few days earlier and I was recovering but it had been a while since my last training run that I decided to run nevertheless. You can see my run stats here. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/434892961 I couldn’t help but burst out laughing when I saw the percentage analysis on my heart rate saying I went over 100%. It certainly felt that way with my cold because my throat felt like it had a coin inside it...
Isn't he on the telly? After a long afternoon cooking, eating and drinking to celebrate Father's Day I wasn't feeling very chipper today at work and even went as far as breaking my new rule ... I drank coffee on a training day. The snack machine also pinched my cash as I tried to buy a Twix (other chocolate bars are available) but I ignored the omen and went for a Double Decker instead ... and regretted it later when I felt queasy during training. I arrived right on time to find Mr H (Football League ref who makes occasional appearances on the Football League Show) and Ricky had joined Steve and they were doing a high intensity session. James P had also turned up very early and was part way through his exercise. This left Paul, Neil...
‘Referees in the media’ will be published at the beginning of the week on the Dutch Referee Blog and provides remarkable or interesting quotes and links to articles worth reading. A Dutch interviewer in newspaper ‘de Volkskrant’ about big football tournaments: “That’s where the Ronaldo’s of this world are.” Cover photo of Volkrant’s summer appendix with Serdar Gözübüyük. “That means nothing to me. Come on, if they go to the bathroom, they stink too.” The reply of Serdar Gözübüyük, a very talented Dutch referee, who stresses that a certain status doesn’t change the person. He emphasises that even if you become more popular, also as a referee, you need to be yourself. You can the the full interview (in Dutch) in last weekend’s...
Rooney in offside position, so shouldn’t the Manchester United goal not be cancelled? My twitter account @DutchReferee exploded last night when I posted a tweet that Phil Dowd correctly allowed the goal Manchester United goal against Preston North End in the FA Cup. 62 retweets and 17 favorites (and still counting). In this case study […] Continue reading...
In an earlier version of this blog I used to upload any Referee related video to youtube and link back to that. This stopped due to my DVD Recorder packing up. I had forgotten all about the videos until for some reason recently they have been getting a lot of comments and I keep getting emails for them! As they had got a bit lost, I have added them to a playlist and stuck them on the right of the blog. Continue reading...
