It will be rare to see a retake for encroachment now, I think (although maybe not as rare as before the law change )

I am happy with that question and the answer. But that is not what happened in OP was it? (At the risk of going around circles)

Put the encroaching defender 3m further back and then the question covers it. (Edit. And that's only if the attacker touches the ball)

What did the encroaching attacker impact? He impacted an encroaching defender. Therefore the encroaching defender also impacted the outcome.

For me impact in law 14 is about impacting the outcome. And the encroaching defender would most certainly impact the outcome if you give an offside. If it was't for him, offside would NOT be given.

Neither attacker nor defender commit a law 14 offence. The only way they do is if you believe they challenge each other, and that bit is subjective.

So we can only really be left with goal, or offside. Can't be a goal if you believe as I do the attacking team commit an offence before the goal is scored. Which I do in law 11.

Edit. I think i can see your angle. And I think limiting law 14 offence wording to just "challenging each other" is oversimplifying it. I do believe they both committed law 14 offences.

Well obviously neither impact keeper or kicker.

Neither challenges an opponent for the ball or plays it so they the can't do any of the "and" actions.

Game from earlier this month.

Penalty in the game.
Taken and saved. Player blocks defender from rebound. He just about encroached but without VAR I think it's hard to give.
I totally get the assistant on the goal line and couldn't see the offside, but why is the referee looking to move out of the area and not see the follow up and subsequent offside?
The attacker blocking the defender from clearing is offside when the shot occurs and is very much material in the ability for the defender to play the ball.
Learning curve for some here personally.

Totally agree, the learning is that for all referees, they need to be switched on to the possibility of an offside judgement being needed by them, with their AR justifiably out of position in this regard.

The other key thing from the clip (for me) is understanding when, in law, the penalty kick is complete. I would have assumed that the second touch by the kicker, after the save, meant that we were now in ‘open play’ and encroachment therefore off the table. But that appears not to be the case (though I am hoping to get clarification on this soon)

Interesting choice to refer to them as the 'Tics'. I always thought Ticks were tiny little things that case a LOT of irritation... figures I guess....

For the avoidance of doubt, I know it's just a shortening of their nickname and should I ever be fortunate enough to get to a position where I am officiating on a Wigan game (however unlikely), I do not have any feelings towards them, positive or negative.
