Why would you not just abandon the match and file one, simple sheet for a special incident? By sending off 36 players, you're committing to 36 sending-off reports. Why, oh, why would you do that to yourself?

The only logical explanation I can think of for not just filing a mass report is that having 'left the pitch in fear' none of the officials were thinking straight. I can't imagine putting myself through that amount of paperwork!
