The Ref Stop

What would you do?

Little brother posed the following scenario to me, but actually got me thinking...

Last minute of a match, all the players (including goalkeeper) are up for a corner. An unused sub for team A is moving his car in the car park next to the FOP, when the play breaks and team B punt the ball upfield. It is heading into the goal so the sub drives his car onto the FOP, preventing the ball from entering the goal.

What do you do?

The Ref Stop
IDFK where ball & car made contact.
Sanction-wise though, not sure. Not DOGSO I don't think as not on FOP, so presumably only YC for entering w/o permission

For me it would have to be a red card for DOGSO as it is denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity by an offences punishable by a free kick. Also make sure that the car is moved from the immediate surrounds of the field of play after the incident for safety reasons.

It won't make much different to the attacking team as it is a substitute being sent off. But the restart should be an indirect free kick from where car touched ball.

It's definitely a drop ball where ball meets car. I'd recommend that the sub keeps driving before he's lynched by the other team!

Maybe worth a misconduct report, 'cos how do you caution a car for entering FOP without permission? ;)

It's an incredibly dangerous thing to do and the risk of running someone over is huge.

Pandemonium would likely break loose (and I don't use the word pandemonium lightly!) I would go with the DOGSO and award idfk and brace myself for what would be about to transpire!

I was thinking IDFK and maybe a red card for substitute as it might come under endangering the safety of an opponent. But I'm just praying this never happens to me in a Saturday league game!

As above, but I would also report him for summons under Sec 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988;)

I agree with Grayson. I'm not dealing with that kind of stuff. Probably going to abandon the match as, clearly, there is a lack of consideration for the safety of everyone concerned being displayed.

Cannot be a red card for DGSO, as to be sent off for this you have to commit a penal offence i.e. a Direct Free Kick offence.

However, as mentioned above, I'd consider a red card anyway for seriously endangering player safety.

Would definitely consider an abandonment!
