The Ref Stop

West Ham v Fulham

The Ref Stop
O dear that's a clear handball. To be fair to the officials the AR is on the other side and it's a crowded box. Got to be getting them right at this level though

Masons view was blocked. Not seen a wide view to see if the AR was blocked but there's 2 or 3 players in the 6 yard box between the goal scorer and the corner taker. Need to see a still to know for sure

I'm not buying it.

Edit: let's put an on topic context on it now that the "buy" post is gone.

Replays and slow mos from 4 different angles and the only one that is conclusively handball is the one from a low angle behind the goal. Must admit all on a small phone screen but I am still not buying that the officials should have seen that. It was a job for VAR.

Not seen it yet. However I read another forum which says game would have been different with VAR, goal chalked off, and West Ham down to ten!

No matter what technology is introduced, if punters dont follow the basics to the lotg there will always be confusion!

He definitely handled it, the camera behind the goal was the one that shows it the best. It misses his head and his hand slaps it in. Impossible for Mason to see though unless he has suddenly developed x-ray vision.

Chicarito's body language gave it away, he stayed down on the floor fully expecting it to be disallowed.

Agree ref cant see it. Which begs the next obvious question. Why he is so far away from the drop/danger area, with totally no angle or giving himself any chance at all
Can just about understand his starting position but soon aa corner is taken, he is static, no awareness or alert to whats going on, and gives himself no chance of seeing anything. All very well saying his view was blocked. It was. Why! Cos he stood there like a spare plank hoping a> someone skies it over bar. Or b> defender clears it. Why on earth would a vastly experienced top level ref not consider the very real possibility of having to make a kmi in the six yard box!!

The lack of reading the play is staggering.

this is the corner before the "goal", Stop the clip on 3 min 52.

Where is a> the drop zone but more importantly, b> the ref? The ref is nowhere to be seen !! He is not even in screen shot, so, 30 yards from goal !!!!

we after the first corner, SHOULD have an inkling as to what todays tactic is, where the ball is going etc...incredibly, Mr Mason chooses to stand even further away for the next corner! Which, not incredibly, is played to exact same spot as the first corner! Awareness anyone? Feeling for game? reading of game? Whatever term you wish to use, its severely lacking, in fact non existent here !!!

Stop the clip on 4 min 26. Play a game of, spot the ref. And he drives home wondering how he missed it? !!!

i have no sympathy at all for a referee who gives himself no chance at all to make the call and i go as far as to say, he deserves to get the call wrong, given his diabolical positioning and reading of the game.
