For new refs: Be very careful with responses like this. The "I know I am" can be seen as obnoxious or flip and can cause coaches to turn more hostile. Very experienced refs like @JamesL can pull things like that off in away that will often be problematic for newer referees. Starting out, it is best to be focused on simple, direct and non confrontational.

Yep. Fair point that. And it's probably not delivered as directly either, depends on the teams, if I know them well or not too. As in do they know my style, and how I know they will react
