Verbal distraction inside the box???

I had my first game today as a referee in training, between two U-13 sides in a friendly. The match was fairly easy and very few fouls were committed, leading to an interesting, high-tempo game. However, one moment caught me off guard.

The goalkeeper came off his line to defend a one-on-one situation, and he made a distracting, loud shout, clearly intended to put off the striker. He saved the ball and it I awarded a corner, and to be fair there wasn't too much complaining from the sideline (surpisingly!). I know that this would usually be a cautionable offence, but it was inside the box, and it was only an U13 game. Should I have given a penalty? Or does that sound over the top? And does the fact that it it was an U13 game make a difference?

I suppose you could lso play advantage as the 1 on 1 that remained after the shout was a better opportunity than an IFK. And could still give the USB caution to give the lesson.

In the real world, I think there are a lot of factors that would go into to what I decided to cut ally do. At one end of the spectrum is the CK and a word to the GK so he knows it’s not acceptable. While DOGSO is theoretically possible, it would take a lot of extenuating factors for me to get there. (Such as prior behavior in the game, how obnoxious it was, the extent to which it actually affected the opponent.)

A very big factor for me is, in your opinion did it actually put off the kicker? Would he have likely scored without the distraction?

Technically this should be IFK and yellow, or red if DOGSO. But in practice context is a big factor and expectations too. Being friendly and U13 is part of this context.

The reson for no complaining, while many people think you can't say 'leave it' not many know you can't verbally distract.

I don't usually bite, but go on then, as it's you Chas 😍

a) yes. either i'm there or i'm not. am a referee, not a coach
b) learn the lesson today when it doesn't cost them 3 points
The OP hasn't given us a full and clear description - they awarded a corner kick, so presumably the attacker got a shot away, and I'm not sure whether there is enough for a DOGSO.
