for me unless its in the penalty area, i play on.

My usual phrase is: "You can leave the field to do it if you want, we don't stop the game for it." If you feel his laces are a safety hazard, then you are obliged to make him leave to do them up, but most of the time I just let them do it themselves without stopping, unless it is a goalkeeper and the game can be held up like a few other people have said.

Since I only do youth games, I let them tie their laces but I tell all the other players to check their laces as well.
