Tottenham v Everton Goal

Just watched MOTD there and the pundits seem to be blaming the Everton defense for the goal, however, I'm wondering if maybe the referee influenced it. The freekick was taken quickly about 10 yards from where the actual foul happened. Shouldnt he have called it to the right position?

There are times when you need to be picky about place, net of the ball and time when you don't. This was definitely one when the referee didn't need to be worried about it.

Whilst technically the ball wasn't positioned on the blade of grass on which the foul occurred it was generally in the right area and the lack of complaints from any player tell us all we need to know in this instance. Don't go looking for problems, they'll always find you!

Good point! I reckon that free kick was 8 yards from where the foul was and that's too much in my book. "A free kick is taken from the place where the infringement occurred." Had the foul been thirty yards from goal would the ref have let them take it that far from where the foul was? Maybe he switched off a bit too. ;-)
