Took around a year away from the game to get the passion back and now that it's back, I've got my first assignment on Sunday. Assistant Referee for a Canadian University match. Looking forward to it.

I don't know if anybody told you Ryan, but while you were away they changed football. Completely!
It's now more like a stereotypical Victorian cricket match in terms of etiquette and the way players interact with each other and the referee. All "excuse me my good sir" and "sorry about the tackle old cjap, would you like a peice of cake and a cup of earl grey?"
So much more civilised!

Alright, here we go. Match time. Hopefully my fitness hasn't failed me over the last year.
Match was 0-0 when I had to order a penalty be retaken on a save. Keeper came off his line well early. They scored the second go. Match finished 5-0. I was not the most popular with the home team.
No change there (said just about every referee ever).
Ain't that the truth.
