My record is 10 yellows in a game, 5 to each side. One side was slower in some key areas of the pitch, so kept having to commit tactical fouls to stop the opponents (4 cards), the other side were super mouthy and, for some reason, didn't respond to dissent cautions, so got 4 players in the book for dissent. I felt bad about it in the immediate aftermath, but I'm fairly sure that showing cards for dissent is supposed to have some kid of effect that it simply didn't in this match.

Because put quite simply, some footballers are plain thick and don't have the capacity to respond to such cautions however much you try.

Exactly, I've never had a match before or after where dissent cautions haven't helped set out my stall. I have no idea why that particular team had so much trouble with the idea that I wasn't accepting their attitude, I can only assume they're usually allowed to get away with behaviour I considered unacceptable.
