The Ref Stop
Or maybe players can and do deceive officials. Yes it's a mistake given that there was no contact and no foul, but from the referee's point of view it obviously looked like a pull. It's only on the second camera angle that you can see it was clear simulation.

Feel a bit sorry for the ref here ... maybe his angle of the players changed just at the wrong time ... it's also one of those that IF it is a foul then it HAS to be a caution and it HAS to be a send-off as it's a 2nd caution ...

Maybe "shocking" is a big cruel on the ref - I'm sure we've all (I know I have!) made more shocking calls than this one :)

I feel sorry for the referee. He has to anticipate play and always place himself in a better position. He runs like Phil Dowd. hehe. #NoDisrespect.

Little bit harsh on the ref, he was not far away, little bit central behind the incident, but close enough for a credible decision. You can see from the way the attacker fell and turned to look at the ref why the decision was sadly and wrongly given.

Certainly a lot closer than mr dowd would have been :)

Hahaha, mr dowd would have been in the penalty area! ;);)

In fairness the ref couldn't have done a lot. Position OK and credible, just slightly narrow but was getting wide as it happened. Just bad luck and had to card after blowing.

Feel sorry for the ref. Certainly wouldn't describe it as shocking

I said shocking because that is the word my assessors always use. For a FIFA listed referee to not see that is totally shocking (Again, my assessors point of view). I am lucky because I am new. Pause the video at 0.02 and check the distance.

Around 16 yards away from play. Possibly slightly far but certainly not unusual for a Fifa referee when chasing play in that manner.

The replay starts a bit too late i think to see all the action
If you pause during the fade, you can see that maybe the defender takes the yellow player's hand

The referee was in unobstructed view. He can clearly see both players. When you are a bit far, you can make wrong decisions. I think that happened here.

Little bit keen to put the boot into another referee maybe.

Let's hope you don't make any televised balls ups eh?

Always difference in opinion. Lol

Good night fellas. It is too late here. 1.22am. Bye

I think that Yacinho is right, here, and the replay starts a bit too late. initial coming together, albeit unclear on the video, is inside the centre circle, replay begins with players outside centre circle.

The contact is minimal and the player dives.

I guess it depends what the referee blew for. Perhaps he saw the initial contact as a tactical foul, considered playing advantage and then blew for the foul when no advantage accrued

In that case the referee has erred in his judgment. I think judging that minimal contact as a foul is a poor judgment.

Replay starts far too late.
And anyone claiming that there was def not a foul from the original zoomed out view has a much higher opinion of their own eyesight than they should.
Bet there's a worse decison on MOTD tonight!

Perhaps part of the make up of being a FIFA referee is total self belief bordering on arrogance
