I'm in France and was watching the local kids play 7-a-side. All tippy tappy skills and tricks, regardless of position on FOP. No hint of a meaningful tackle and no hurties. You and I are not keen, but we're in a dwindling minority. Not sure how chinning ur opponent was ever fair game however

Dont know what the problem is !

I think it is GAA Football rather than Association Football, so they regularly have fights during the game.
 
Wasn't this from the FIFA World cup when the incident was reviewed by VAR? The review didn't find a clear and obvious error and the decision was added to the 'accurate bucket' for statistics :D
 
I mean it's funny to watch but think of the talents that were kicked out of the game back in the day
 
Zzz... nobody is condoning being punched in the face. Although there is something engaging about them just getting on with it after immediate reconciliation. Cowardly cheating and hypersensitivity rules the day; a backward step overall

Really? I find the idea that I could go out for an afternoon of sport and get punched in the face to be almost the definition of something that would make me NOT want to engage with the sport...but each to their own.

Ah, but that is because you're hypersensitive.

If you were a well rounded individual you would have no problem with someone punching you in the face, as long as they shook your hand afterwards...
 
Ya'all make out that punching someone in a gentlemanly manner is being applauded. Its not with a resounding no. I'm just pointing out that i'd prefer that to the embarrassing nonsense the television spews at us these days. At least those fellas could go home and look their wives (or partners) in the face. Cheating in the form of intimidation is just the lesser of two evils imo...
Fortunately (in the UK at least), from below the EPL down to Step 7, cheating of either form is not too bad, so we're only really debating elite nauseating tripe

Back in the day there were ways and means of responding to such an act, it wouldn't be the choreographed handbags we see these days, you'd do it off the ball at a corner or leave a bit extra in a tackle or follow through. One of the best at this was Billy Whitehurst, average footballer, feared throughout the English Leagues.... Played for many teams but he was the protector...

My point is that what happened in the past is totally irrelevant to today's refereeing. I too prefer some of the things that were done in the past, but it is just that, the past.

This is a refereeing forum, not a general football forum, so anything on here should be relevant to refereeing today. There will be comparisons of refereeing from today to the past, but the OP had absolutely nothing to do with refereeing at all, and isn't even related to football as was in a totally different sport.

It clearly says ‘Referees Forum,! that covers all forms of refereeing surely? A Hurling, cricket, egg chaser is still a referee or am I missing something? It had everything to do with refereeing, have you actually watched it???
