Taking a knee

The Referee Store
What I don’t understand is why the taking of the knee happens after kick off?

When we do a minutes silence we have the minutes silence then start the game. Why not do exactly the same with taking the knee?
I assume it’s because, as it’s a statement, all eyes are on the game at kick off. Just a guess anyway

I think it all started from this post. Prob just to open up a discussion or make a point. I don't think players would ever decide to take a knee after kick off.
I'm not sure I agree with your initial premise here. If you blow your whistle and one player wants to kick off and another player wants to take a knee for 5 seconds, you're much better off stopping at least one of them!

I've heard nothing from my CFA regarding this, so I won't be factoring it into my pre-match routine. The 'taking the knee' thing probably won't get any traction in the amateur game. I'm expecting folk to be more interested in playing football
