The Ref Stop

surprise compliment!

I reffed a game on Sunday and the away team manager spoke to me at full-time. His team lost 4-1 this week.

I reffed a cup game earlier in the season and i sent off his captain for a 2 footed assault on another player. I think this was out of frustration as they were getting hammered. At fulll-time in the first game the manager refused to shake my hand.

Anyway the manager said that this season some of his games have got out of control and cards have rained and sometimes not. He said he did not know what to expect from the referees he was getting.

He said it was obvious i had control of both games and both games produced 1 red and 1 yellow in total. For somebody who refused to shake my hand first game that seems like a transition. He said sorry for the first game and thanked me.

Makes a change for people to be decent.

Good demonstration of mentality and results can change the words that come out of people’s mouths.

I love it when this happens! It reminds me that not all players/coaches in English leagues are morons!

Every handful of games, one just goes really well and everyone is full of praise. I tend to not overthink it at the time (as usually the praise is a backhand at another colleague).

But I do think about them weeks after the game and they make me enjoy it.
