Summer tournaments

I wondered if people do any summer tournaments? If not why not?

And

What is the best way to go about finding some to get involved with?

The answer will depend on local practices in your area. Sometimes clubs find referees, sometimes Appointment Secretaries appoint, sometimes the County FA appoint.
Ask your local Appointments Secretary whalt happens near you.
In all cases make sure the tournament is sanctioned by your County FA, otherwise turn it down.
Some pay well, some pay in burgers and drinks, all over-run time-wise and usually you get a lot of games.

I did a couple when I first started refereeing. They're a nice day if the sun shines and there is good company also refereeing. This was the case on the first one I did. The second one I did was horrible, cold and wet and it's no coincidence I haven't done one since

I did three last summer.

2 were great. One was awful.

The days are long and you end up running for 5+ hours in the sun.

One just kept dragging on and few refs just up and left. So muggins here ended up doing about 10 hours at the venue, games going the whole day. For £60. Got turbo sunburnt too (my fault).
