Hi

I kind of know the answer to this question but wanted to know what others would do differently.

Step 7 game. Goalkeeper goes down injured badly clutching knee. I run over. Next thing, spectator comes running on to the pitch - ‘I don’t care what you say ref I’m coming on that’s my son’. Comes on to tend to his injured son. At which point I kind of think okay - nothing I can do here to stop him and his son is injured. Next thing he says ‘how was that not a yellow card over there’.

At this point I say to him ‘you need to be very careful coming on and questioning me about a decision’. I turn to the team captain and clearly state that he needs to remove the spectator from the pitch immediately. I repeat the same to the team manager.

Should I put in an ex report for this?

Could I have done anything differently, maybe not engaged with the spectator?

The parent actions were emotionally but they should not entered the field of play this should of been the clubs named 1st aid or physio to attend to the player

As for Confronting you about a decision I would not got involved in any conversation and calmly asked the team manager to remind the parent not enter the pitch as this Could have influenced or escalated tensions

As for an EX report if you feel this this effected your match control and team manager didn't deal with it then put in a report.
 
Parent coming on for their child? Ok, maybe I can look the other way for a second. Parent coming on and then questioning me about my decisions? Tell captain/team officials to remove them immediately and ex report after the game.
 
If this was a kids game I would probably understand it, a parent looking out for his young child. At a step 7 game, just 2 or even 1 level below semi-professional football, there can be no way this is acceptable and I would be reporting it if the person running on wasn't named as one of the technical area occupants. I feel a bit sorry for the player, he's going to get so much stick for his dad running on to comfort him.

The audacity as well. Making out he was coming on because it was so serious but still in that moment of so called need to use it to have a pop. The fact he told me I’m coming on like it or not, tells me he knew it was wrong.
 
I have had this happen myself and I mentioned it to the parent about a possible safeguarding issue. I mentioned to them that I have NO idea who they are and as such should not be approaching any young player. How would they feel if someone else tried to walk onto the pitch and go towards their son/daughter? We would quite rightly get it in the neck. We shouldn't take any chances, and parents need to be told by the coaches that they should never come onto the pitch.
 
If it looks bad and he can be the first on the scene, let him be. He may be a trained medic, so he made the person they need. Once the technical staff come on, you should encourage away to let them do there job. Would I suggest a EX report be submitted for this, No.

I would have just ignored the first comment, but any further would have been dealt with

Yes, safeguarding needs to be considered, and once the immediate assessment has been made, they should remove themselves from the FOP

Would agree at grass roots, but not at step 7 where there will be qualified physios.
