So was doing an end of season show piece game today, very late on I know but hey. Away team go over to take a corner and player one puts it down and then rolls it ever so slightly with his foot. Player one then runs off leaving the ball and taking the covering defender with him. Player two who was being marked then runs over and proceeds to run with ball.
I have to be honest it took me completely by surprise and i quickly thought if it was legal or not and all I could think of was that Howard Webb disallowed his. I then gave an indirect free kick saying it wasn't in the spirit of the game and was basically deceiving the other players, unsporting behaviour so to speak.
Now coming home and reading up on it I realise I was totally wrong, but I am still surprised they tried it. Has anyone else had a team do it or one like the infamous Pires/Henry penalty, albeit successfully.
