had a nice game Saturday, league game OA, 2 teams ive not encountered before... both extremely pleasant sets of gentlemen and it didnt detract from a hard contested game of football. Proves it doesnt have to be blood, guts and foul mouthed rants to get through a match.
A couple of amusing incidents as well, away team awarded a IDFK for offside, and its in their PA, the keeper takes it and the right back plays it before its left the area so obv i take it back ...
the right back says " but its a free kick ref not a goal kick"
"i'm aware of that fella, it has to leave the area"
then one of his players says, "oi ***, arent you a ref ???" to which the response was 'yes, but i never knew that ! '
the other thing was that there was a cup game on another pitch and the ref for that was already in the changing room when i got there. We both did a double take as we recognised each other.. he's cautioned me on ohh dunno 6/7 occasions and i swear he shook his head as if to say ' whats the world coming to ?' no words were exchanged, but we both knew
