Safeguarding Course

Just a little query really.

I have no intention of reffing kids football but I have been told by Birmingham FA that it is mandatory to do the safeguarding course as part of becoming a fully qualified ref.

The course is already paid for as part of the fee for the ref's course I am on. It's just that the first one got cancelled and the next one is re-arranged for tomorrow. My stepson's partner is due to drop her baby either today/tomorrow (currently being induced) so the Wife is going to want to see her new Grandson. Add that to the fact that I don't want to do the safeguard course anyway or ref kid football, then I think why should I bother with the hassle of it all.

Can I really be forced into doing it?

If your FA decide its a mandatory part of you being a qualified referee then, yes you do have to do it.

They are usually quite regular so why not delay until next one as the upcoming one does clash with a rather important event!

Reasoning is usually that 16 & 17 year olds can play open age football.
