About 8 years ago now my son was trialing for a club in a U14 trial game. First time he gets the ball in the game his opposite number fouls him from behind, free kick we go on. Two minutes later exact same thing, same defender. Free kick we go on. A few minutes later the same and nothing more than a free kick. Three fouls in a row by the same defender on the same attacker, no other fouls. My son blows up and gives the referee (a couple of years older than him) a good 10 second spray. Nothing obscene but clear dissent. No action from the referee. But the opposition coach subbed the defender. Next stoppage the senior AR (about 50ish) flagged the referee to approach and discretely passes him a yellow and red card and says a few words. I guess both the ref and his mentor learnt from that experience.
On a side note, the ref got an apology from my son at half time.
