Don't really know what thread to put this, if in wrong place I apologise.

Anyways been told by local fa that application for promotion next season opens up tomorrow, and I have a few questions.

Firstly, If you apply and pay the non refundable £30 are you guaranteed to be given the chance to get promoted or do they reject people?

Also is the laws of the game exam noticeably harder than the one on the starter course?

And finally a requirement is to attend an fa led referee seminar what exactly is this?

You will be guaranteed onto the promotion scheme, but to stay on it you will need to meet all of the scheme rules. There will be rules about the number of games you have to referee, how you submit games for observation, and so on. Generally the deposit is repaid if you complete the scheme whether you are promoted or not, but if you don't complete either from being removed or leaving yourself you will lose it.

LOTG exam for 7-6 isn't normally too difficult, but it gets harder for 6-5.

Depends on county, but it is often a whole day in-service training event on a Sunday where you will also take the exam. Might include a mix of classroom learning and practical coaching.

No issue, you didnt mention completed games etc and decent assessments, I'm no expert but chucking £30 at something, answering a few more questions at it doesn't guarantee anything!! RR knows!!!

I knew about games and all rules etc but those were just questions I was more curious about

Thanks mate the seminar in question that is have to attend is on a Wednesday night 7 til 9 cheers

It should be refunded as long as you complete the promotion season, regardless of whether you are promoted or not. Below is from rule 4B of the referee regulations as defined by the FA ...

The Parent Association may charge promotion candidates an administration fee (the maximum sum to be determined from time to time by The Association); the administration fee will be refunded to candidates who complete the promotion process, regardless of whether or not they are promoted.[/I

How long has that been the rule? I never got any promotion fees returned. I only got to attempt my level 4 again when I didnt get it 1st time round

Here's the actual wording:
All promotion candidates must pay £20 promotion fee. This is refunded if you meet the criteria.

Since it was allowed to charge a deposit for promotion, probably 4-5 years ago. That only applies to 7-5 promotions though technically as they are administered by the CFAs. 5-4 is a bit different, as it is an FA promotion but administered by the CFA with the FA having final say.
 
My county use the fee to pay for the next seasons registration.

You also get the money back if you have to withdraw due to injury (backed up with a Drs note etc)
