Referee Levels About To Change(?)

I'll Decide ...
Heard on the grapevine yesterday that the FA are going to do what they considered a few seasons ago (but didn't) and dispense with the current Levels 7 and 6 promotion schemes. Something about going straight to Level 5 but being categorised as 5a, 5b, 5c etc.

Anybody out there more clued up on what's meant to be happening and how it will work?

so that just sounds exactly the same but renaming!

depending on how moving between the c - b - a levels changes it could cause issues as there's obviously a big discrepancy between some 7s and 5s although i had an excellent 7 on my line yesterday (and 5) and have had much worse 5s this season
 
The FA are trying to get rid of neutral assistant referees outside of the pyramid.
Likely that even Step 7 won't be allowed to use neutral assistant s.

I can see why - lack of referees in general, means some Step 7 leagues have to pull assistants from other games, which then become uncovered.

What that means for the L4's referees on step 5/6 games I don't know. They will be getting AR will little / no experience at the start of season - Chaos to reign?

They'll just lose many refs from Saturday football who only want to line.

Midland Football League has assistants down to "Step 9", and in the u21 divisions Saturday mornings.
Not sure where the 5to4 candidates are going to get games with neutral assistants.

Here they are given step 6 games. There is also County Cups as well.
Only 1 game has to be with NARs iirc?
 
Lots of questions, the current pathway to 5 via observation and promotion suits alot of people
They get observed on games with tips on improvement and get to a senior level within the county and for some that's enough. Will they still get those opportunities?

Not the 1st place I have read this today, but the other post was suggesting it could go up to as far as step 5 😩
 
My 5-4 next season could be interesting then, based on this thread.

I heard from my RDO recently things were changing but he didn't go in any detail so was just waiting for an update.

Probably too make it feel like a concession when it's only for step 7 and below.
Remember when sin bins come initially the rumour was from Step 3 down.

Birmingham County FA are trying to railroad through assistant fees being a maximum of 50% of the refs fee...

That will certainly get rid of a number of assistants - good job, step 6 and above fees are set by the FA, rather than CFA's.

Won't happen, as Step 6 up north is covered by L4. Taking away NAR, will also remove L4's from the middle. So on York's, there would only be Northern Countries East Premier eligible for NAR, so a maximum of 12 matches a week.

The people who want to do lines would have to do them at Step 6. These may be too high/fast for them.

Step 6 is L4s all around I think.
It was a pass away comment on another non refereeing forum.
Level 4s don't necessarily have to work with NARs if the FA deem that to be the case.

Just a question whats wrong with refs just wanting to line. For me personally I like lining more than middling as I enjoy it a lot more. However given a match at a higher level and current I will middle.

Don't think so, for example L4s only referee on the Spartan South Midlands step 5 league, the step 6 league division is refereed by L5s.
