Ref in the way

Lots of complaints this season of EPL referees getting in the way either of the ball or of players trying to get to the ball.

For what's left of the season (one day?) would there be anything wrong with a coach instructing his players:

If the ref is in the way, try a one-two off the ref, and if it goes to a defender you'll get a dropped ball. Opponents have to be 4 metres away so just lob it into the penalty area.

Yes. If the ref is quick enough to dodge the ball, you will end up red-faced.

The referee drops the ball for one player. All other players must be at least 4m away.

Also if you get it back you might pass up a promising attack, because if it touches the ref, and then a promising attack is a started that's also a dropped ball.

All other players includes opponents so opponents have to be 4 metres away - and nothing to stop the designated player lobbying it into the penalty area... (a possibility implicit in the requirement for two players to touch it for a goal to be scored) ... unless the referee stands in the way again.

But if you've got a promising attack, the ref gets in the way, and you play a one-two against the ref, that's not starting but continuing a promising attack...

The main point is that referees should not be acting as extra defenders. Get out of the way!

But it looks in the EPL like dropped balls are being managed so the designated player is expected to pass the ball backwards.
