I’m aware that in Europe handball thresholds have been different (and Newcastle got penalised v PSG for a handball deflected into hand by defender’s own body) - but IFAB site states deflection off another part of body onto hand isn’t handball.

Defender slides in, blocks Vinicius’ cross, hits his own foot and rebounds straight into arm as far as I can tell, which you’d also argue was in a pretty normal position for a sliding player.

Notwithstanding potentially different interpretation in Europe, should we really be giving handball for this?

Not to sound like a total stickler but this is where there are issues when we give a decision that is expected in the English game like not giving HB in this situation. Really not a fan of europe and us having different interpretations of the laws and one has to give way to the other I think.

This is the what the IFAB ‘football rules’ site says currently, references deflections: IFAB
I would ignore those, they were designed to placate people who can't be bothered to read the actual laws, and don't seem to be always updated to reflect law changes.

What is relevant now is was his arm in an acceptable position for the footballing action he was performing. The answer for me is it most definitely was, so this isn't a handball for me whether it was in England, Spain or on Mars.

Had 2 in the same game not the same as this but comes under the “off players own foot/body on to hand.”
Is it a blanket ‘no handball’ even if the arm is out (in one instance, the player miscontrolled the ball, the ball bounced up and the players arm was outstretched for balance as he tried to control the ball in the previous action.) his body is bigger, it’s hit his hand, but are we supposed to not give this as it has come off his foot first?

Appalling decision. That is just "look at me" refereeing that for some reason is tolerated in the ECL.
