Pre-Match Discussion

Mirrorings a good idea, if it's done quickly enough without helping either team tactically.

I always ask my colleague on the so-called 'dead line' behind me when I'm facing a corner kick to monitor the 85% I'm not directly looking at, and I'll have any mischief spotted off of them, 75 yards away or not,. Players accept quickly enough that 3 pairs of eyes mean exactly that. Plus, if plays at that end a long time, it encourages colleagues to be involved, oddly in my experience, they never actually seem to get over involved but have thankfully picked up some nasty off the ball/out of view misconduct the two of us 'down here' could cleary never have seen.

One other thing I do differently to my knowledge is place my 'senior' line who'll replace me away from the dug outs. If he does come on he's no axe to grind with club officials, AND the colleague with perhaps 'less' experience is invited to get some, deep end style!
