Almost had an incident today in a game.

Right winger attacking down the flank and left back giving chase, winger manages to get a cross in but both players leave the field of play due to their momentum.

As the ball is cut back a forward has a strike on goal but goes over.

Question im unsure on, are them two players classed as no longer being involved in anyway ?

Involved in what way? In terms of future offside decisions they are both deemed to be on the goal line. Any potential foul would also be deemed to have occurred on the goal line closest to where they went out of bounds. I guess I don't understand what you're asking about for this second or two that the players are off the field.
 
Thats cleared it up if they're classed as still in play.

Say for example when the ball is pulled back the striker scuffs his shot and the right winger who had gone off the pitch (and behind the left back) comes back on the pitch and scores.
 
OK I got you. Don't forget the player is still likely to be in an offside position. Because if the goalkeeper is not on the goal line he would be the 2nd to last defender and therefore the attacker and defender on the goal line would result in that attacker being offside should he then play that scuffed shot.
 
Yes i took that into consideration, just was unsure of the law on their momentum staking them off the pitch.

The wording in law is awfully, dreadfully, appallingly poor on this ones. But essentially what @CapnBloodbeard said.

Where is a defending play considered to be (say an injured one) who leave the FOP after the ball is cleared by the defending team (still in play)? And what happens if there is a stoppage and the player is still off the FOP?

And as it stands, and attacking player off the FOP is only considered to be on the goal line AFTER he re-enters the FOP! :rolleyes:
