Player/Manager causing problems

Was at the Celtic v Hamilton game on Sunday and the player manager got a bit Lippy to the 4th official so referee came over and cautioned him which I can understand.

Am I right in thinking that the only way he can be removed from the technical area (if necessary) is by being sent off, he cannot just be dismissed like a normal manager?

Any other quirks with player managers?

Yeah because he is a named substitute you have to treat him as such, he would have to be sent off, but because he is also a manager (team official) I would say you have a case for sending him to the stand as per any other manager or member of the coaching staff.

Ah, the double life of the player/manager!

They run the risk of both sides of sanctions from the referee. If they are to be removed from the technical area over a technical matter (such as coming out of the technical area, failing to be in accordance with directives etc) that does constitute a disciplinary sanction by way of yellow or red card, then they can actually still come onto the FOP as a player at a substitution.

If however they commit acts of misconduct that would ordinarily receive a formal sanction (I.e. OFFINABUS) they would receive the appropriate card.
