Penalty kick hits crossbar and then....

Ball went high in the air. As it came down in the penalty area, the penalty taker challenged for the ball. Now, I was 'hoping' that he would win the header, so that I could award a free kick to the defence team for the taker playing the ball twice. But as the defender won the header, I allowed play to continue.

Very simple question which I only thought about afterwards. Should the penalty taker be allowed to challenge for the ball, given that he is not allowed to have the next touch?

Don't see that I can stop him challenging, but thought it was an interesting one...

Yep, unless he fouls or obstructs a defebder, you can't penalise the attacker for simply challenging for the ball if he doesn't play it first
