Prime example of pundits not knowing the LOTG:
'It was a reckless tackle, but could have easily been a red card.'

That not everyone who uses the word "reckless" is quoting the Laws of Association Football. The word "reckless" pre-dates even Notts County.

Am I right? ;)

But the word in the LotG is, as you put it, 'the word'. It was not made up with a separate definition for football, if one of the seven direct free kick offences is regarded as reckless in a football match then it is worthy of a caution.

what if he'd said,'it was definitely a yellow but it could easily have been a red'

Instructor from Wiltshire Ron Groves did a video & traffic light routine with us years ago

Careless was essentially a green, sticks foot out trips opponent close in slow pace (free kick sufficient) maybe a word in his delicate shell-like on the way past
reckless, not in control, not bothered about opponent's safety, included tripping opponent who's running at great speed (was free kick & yellow card)
and dangerous say deliberate use of elbow, foot over the ball, above the knee, used disproportionate force or excessive force as it later became (warranted a free and a red card)

Think Ron's on the Isle-of-Wight nowadays, smashing bloke, great instructor.

There are ten penal (DFK) offences in the LOTG
