This happened the other week... to save your GglTranslate fingers... AR heard racist abuse... ref spoke to the benches... abuse continued... ref followed protocol which is take the teams off for 5-10 minutes while the perps are dealt with. In this case, there were ejections, the teams were happy, came back out and carried on.

This was in the 2nd tier. I am a bit proud. I have worked with both guys a bit. The AR is a young star and has been deservedly promoted above me the last couple of years. The ref is a top tier seriously talented guy. I have been lucky enough to flag for him, also been in his fascinating classroom sessions. Respect.

Being a ref is really hard especially in a middle of a heated game where the teams are feeling uncomfortable and highly competitive with each other. It is important for the ref to keep his cool from the start to finish of the game.
