Managing NARs effectively

As someone whose first 10 appts this season will consist of 8 on the line, I think the problem at the level most of us operate on is that

a) We will not have worked as a team of 3 before. If we are acquainted with 1 or 2 of the others, again unlikely that we have worked together very recently.

b) We are not "F/T" ARs - my stats an exception and a bit of a fluke this season - so most of us are mixing regular games in the middle without NARS, to working with a relatively high level ref as an AR evry now and again.

Considering the above, my experiences are that.on the whole, teams of 3 generally work well together at this level.

Of course I make mistakes as an AR, but we all do that in the middle, so no reason for it not to happen on the line!

The mistakes mentioned on this thread are always messy to get out of and , of course, given that spectators, managers and players expect a 10/10 from every official on every game, they are always likely to let us know when these "miscommunications" occur!

I don't blame the NARs - I am certain they did what they did with the best will in the world.

What I have taken away from the game is these incidents and another one which I am not going to post about. Still cogitating on that one. Our brains are built to dwell on negatives, discounting positives quite easily. :)

Funnily enough, there is nothing I am concerned about which solely concerned me (not to say there weren't some things I could have done better mind), brain is stuck with my management of these incidents.

Feel a little reassured by the responses though. Thanks for the replies.

@Brian Hamilton - yes, I did signal.

I personally thought you handled both situations in the best possible way when they arose mate. Not sure you could have done anything differently at all.

Surely the only learning point would be how to spot the NAR's likely to be less assertive than you would expect and how you ward that off in your pre-match.

As an old (but very wise and respected) boss of mine used to say "Great skills and quick thinking to put out the fire, but how do you prevent the initial spark?"
