Its funny how one incident means we should get rid of the boards but I don't think the TV companies will like that as they won't be able to do the shot of the 4th official holding the board up too see who's coming off. That said these days the TV companies know who's coming off well before a sub is made it seems but I'm sure it will help players on the far side of the pitch for example to know whether it's their number that has been shown or not.
I think more of the issue is the lack of advancement in the tech of the boards to make the progress more quicker and efficient.
I don't think there's any suggestion there was anything wrong with the board, rather it was a tripple sub with the numbers coming off and on meant he needed 186 presses of the + button, as well as checking the numbers are correct and committing the first two changes to memory. Also, the camera wasn't on him all the time so for all we know they could have given him the wrong numbers initially.
The issue is the technology. They are using a board that has been around since only 3 subs could be used and players wore 1 to 16, and certainly weren't wearing number 73. Manually advancing a number from 1 to 73 in increments of just 1 is going to take the best part of 30 seconds.

I am surprised there is no technology that can enable a mobile app/Bluetooth etc for a board.
If we're now using things like Full Time/Comet etc for team sheets, then there must be a way of incorporating that too.
The subs names/numbers are already there.
You can press on player on/player off and send to board. Seconds.

Indeed. Maybe if the change was made to just be the scoreboard the 10 seconds could start when the change is "announced"? Or when the referee gives a specific signal (much like those of us at grassroots without 4O's who simply have to start the count by telling the player that the 10 seconds have started)
