Walton appeared to say not walking over was an insulting gesture so a straight red was correct in law.
Presume the referee saw/heard something that was actually OFFINABUS

The yellow was on top for the majority of calling over. Then he got angry and showed the red.I actually think it was for the studs down the leg, not once the ref got the yellow out, imo the ref was going to show a red regardless because especially in Europe, those type of challenges are frown upon.
Walton making up nonsense to justify a decision? You shock me...Walton appeared to say not walking over was an insulting gesture so a straight red was correct in law.

This is a perfect example for an explanation by the referee post match which is wanted by most fans.Walton making up nonsense to justify a decision? You shock me...
Lots of legit explanations for what might have happened, that isn't one of them.
On bbc website.

But what the BBC wrote doesn't make sense at all. Even if he intended to give a yellow and decided there was subsequent OFFINABUS, he should have showed the yellow first and then the red. It will be interesting to see if there is any follow up explanation that comes out.
I don't buy that - as I said earlier, that's not the body language of a referee eager to get the player off the FoP. Until he's had enough and just flashes the card.According to BT, the ref give the red for the foul which was studs down the back of the leg, did not seem alot of contact but I have seen them given as reds before so I would say the ref got it spot on.
