The Ref Stop
Disgusting punishment! Should be a lot longer, a lot longer!

To be fair I'm flabbergasted by the small ban!

Maybe another strike in thoughts of the refs?

For myself, I can't ever agree with us going 'on strike', we're here to serve the game, as our 'service before self' motto suggests

Our Scottish colleagues did everything right when reporting the matter I'm sure, and had video evidence to support them, but that's where their duty ended

Too many referees get involved with the politics of the game. It is a seemingly unsatisfactory and unduly lenient punishment I agree, but that fight is better fought on our behalf in the corridors of power, by those we entrust with our welfare rather than in public by the general masses.

I'm sure our Scottish colleagues know we support them wholeheartedly, however a dignified and yet noticeable silence in public can project greater strength and unity amongst match officials when such offences occur, rather than a clamour which can inadvertently give some kind of reward to a player guilty of such bad behaviour, our reaction needs to outsmart his action

great post Parish. I think you'd have to search long and hard to find a sensible human being who doesnt think the punishment is pathetic, but I echo your thoughts entirely.

I'm not saying I'd go on strike, I'm saying the Scottish Refs did go on strike a few seasons ago, and because of this I wondered if they were thinking the same thing.
How do you think the referees should deal with it?

As a group, make their feelings quite clear to the authority that handed the measly ban out, and try and work with them. It's not the player's fault, nor the supporter's or the clubs - so would be unfair to strike and prevent fixtures being played. The issue is with the FA.

I agree that they should not strike, I was just making the point that they had done in the past, and maybe they were thinking about it again.

Although, if they did strike their opinions would be heard much louder, even though I don't agree with it.

They're not looking for sympathy, they're looking for the FA to deal with events and assaults correctly. To be honest, the police could've been included on this incident, because of how aggressive the attack was. If the SFA dealt with this incident correctly, then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

For how long would they strike? Obviously they do not just strike, they attempt to resolve the problem with the SFA, because the SFA in this incident has drawn a line if you like, separating officials and the SFA. If the problem can't be resolved, then they could strike for a weekend. It would cause an upset, because if no officials could be brought in, then the game couldn't be played. That would be many many unhappy fans, coaches, players, and a massive headache for the FA. It would show them how important the officials are, and maybe they should actually impose correct sanctions.
