A few talking points coming out of this one.
  1. Cherki stamp on Gruev when play was stopped with no sanction given. I can just about understand VAR not intervening but think Cherki is lucky to not have been binned.
  2. Farke sent off at full time for confronting the officials (I am guessing about the above incident).
  3. Potential penalty for handball (from 7:09) - which I think was fine not to be given.
  4. Some fans booing the break in play (same link as above - from 0:38) for a few Man City players to be able to break their fast, with arguments over whether the boos were mainly discriminatory or mainly objecting to the accompanying whole-team tactical briefing (after Leeds had made a strong start). I reckon calling the whole team over is likely to have provoked a stronger crowd reaction and made it harder to identify discriminatory behaviour.

I thought Farke was more miffed about the penalty incident. I haven't seen much reaction about the stamp you mention (and the link is blocked on my work pc)
I've seen a lot of people on social media questioning how Farke was sent off before he even made it to the referee but Pep always gets away with it.
Pep gets away with more than he should, but that doesn't excuse Farke, and I think the wording of 'enters the FOP to confront a match official' couldn't match what he did any better. He beelined immediately for Bankes and should be embarrassed about the way he handled himself.

And yeah, I haven't heard the boos, but I think anyone trying to suggest it was booing a tactical briefing is clutching to cover up a sad and embarrassing situation.

i was at the game, while it may have taken a few seconds to realise what was going on and why, the boo's only got louder.

the pen, not for me. the stamp, reminded me of rooney v portugal in 2006...probably a lucky boy

Totally agree about Farke, I don't think an appeal is going to get anywhere.
I have since spoken with people who were at the game, and in their view the boos were mainly about the team talk. In the reverse fixture this season Donnarumma went down 'injured' to allow Guardiola to speak to his team, and it brought back memories of that incident.

Even if anyone at the ground thought that initially, it took maybe 10 seconds to realise what was going on.

Boos were audible for ages, disingenuous to blame 'a team talk'.

But there was a team talk going on throughout and the people I have spoken to have told me it was about that, appearing to take advantage of the stoppage. On TV Peter Bankes was showing two fingers in a way that would not have been visible to spectators. Were there any stadium announcements saying it was a 2-minute stoppage? That could have helped to set expectations that it was a fixed period so it did not matter that other players were going over.

I don't buy it

There wasn't a player down injured and both teams took the opportunity to 'have a chat'

There was a message on the screen and this sort of stoppage has happened unofficially for several seasons without issue

The screen is not visible all around the stadium. BBC Sport has acknowledged this in a follow up article, along with the context of the incident in the reverse fixture.

Yes Leeds players went for a chat too but they had already started strongly in the match and had less to gain from it.
Clearer comms pre-match and inside the stadium will probably help with this for next time. I also think it would help minimise the delay if only the players breaking their fast went to the touchline, perhaps allowing an equivalent number of players from the opposing team for sporting fairness, though I don't think that's likely to happen.
