I've deliberately delayed post to see if any one else asks the question..

Midway through second half Schade was, in my opinion, fouled by Bogle (I think i recall) in the area with Bogle treading on Schades foot.
Schade has knocked ball past him and Bogle has attempted to block, missed, and landed his foot straight down, with studs, on Schade.
Ref yards away says no.
VAR agrees.

Is this less involvement version of VAR the reason, is it missed, or was it simply not a foul.

Plenty of other fouls similar given.
Plenty not too.
Also, watching the game, hard to see how Brentford ended with 4 yellows whilst Leeds had none considering the leniency shown to Rodon two reckless fouls in first half before his injury.
It really wasn't a dirty game.
Anyone seen it and got an opinion?

Looks a clear pen to me.

Only thing I think is that the player has gone down very easy. And I think that maybe sways it on motivation of attacker.
That said the action of defender is careless so it's a penalty kick outcome for me.

I agree he may have gone easily but something seen online suggests pros, including ex ref Graham Scott, believe by not going down, theatrical or not, you're less likely to get anything.
Can definitely understand why players do it.
So it seems a damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Even Bogle is suggesting it's a foul by pointing outside the area was contact (unless he is wronllgly suggesting he got the ball in defence of his "tackle").

As I understand it referees have been told not to give fouls if the player exaggerates the contact. Its one thing going down, but if you dramatically flop like this it is going to put seeds of doubt in the referee's mind.

And with the new style minimal intervention VAR there's no way a review would be recommended.

It definitely should have been awarded on-field, and was a clear and obvious error not to.

Poll would have nice here. "Is this a penalty?" Only two options, yes, no as what we can have as a ref. I doubt that we would get any No. Which means, if we get a good size sample, not only the refere erred, so did the VAR.

Should not put doubt in the VAR mind though when there is clear contact on the top of the foot but pundits and fans can't complain too much as they wanted less VAR intervention(despite England has the lowest VAR interventions in Europe) so don't cry when the VAR don't intervene because they want to stick with the refs call more.

I don't think we'll see many VAR interventions this season, at least not unless the stance changes. There was one in the Spurs game where a defender booted into Marmoush that I am certain would have resulted in a review in previous seasons, but it was quickly cleared.

For the Brentford one, would be interesting to hear what the referee said. If he said something like "there's contact but he's milked it" it becomes nigh on impossible for VAR to get involved as he would have described it exactly as it happened, especially with them being told to not give fouls if the contact is exaggerated. Whereas if he'd said that he didn't see any contact it becomes much easier for VAR to deem it a C&O error.
