Another question from the fans messgaeboard I frequent.

Is he likely to be considered an 'English' or 'Australian' referee for international appointments/selection for a major tournament?

Thanks

I would imagine he would be considered as an “English” referee because he’s representing an English or a European crew.
However, even though he is working some UEFA events as a VAR team member, he’s no longer a FIFA since he was on Australia’s FIFA list and then moved to England.
This does raise issues that are occurring more in today’s global world. For example, Ali Faghani moved to Australia. He’s still in an AFC nation, but since FIFAs are by country he can’t be a FIFA. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see some modifications to the FIFA listings where confederations might get 1-2 spots to nominate referees like Faghani so they can still work international matches despite crossing borders.
