In theory this is what should happen but in practice for cases that it is clear the intent is not to delay the restart (e.g, player winded, his/her team is disadvantage by delay) I give the player few seconds to take a breath and get up. The empathy helps with game management.

I think the problem here is understanding the difference between stopping the game and stopping play. The law mandates the injured player to leave when 'play' is stopped. If 'game' is stopped, player only has to leave based on some other conditions.


Correct. Player did not deliberately waste time but it was in fact wasted (delayed) due to treatment.

And as I understand it… if in this situation, the player decides to leave the field for treatment instead of the trainer coming in and there is no delay in play - he / she can return when ready and does not have to serve the minute.
