The Ref Stop

I need the motivation...

Most counties have restarted courses (I have just come in from tutoring in Hampshire on one of five courses being run this week) Most have a list of people already registered for courses, and the courses are limited in numbers attending as we have to practise social distancing during the courses.
Birmingham is indeed the local FA for Coventry.
Enjoy the course and enjoy refereeing.
Thank you! I went on the referee course dates for the Birmingham FA and there was none there but that may be for a different reason I suppose. I've emailed and will see what they come back with.

Theres also the safeguarding course you need to do. I did mine in a different county as there wasn't one in my parent county for months after I'd completed the referee course. I've recently renewed the safeguarding training course on line (have to do it every 3 years i believe). You may well be able to do the Safeguarding course online which would obviously be very helpful to speed up your reintegration into a fully registered and qualified referee as opposed to waiting for a classroom based course. Somebody more informed than me may well be able to advise on that one

I knew that you needed to do one before the course but being able to do it online is certainly useful. Maybe that's why the courses don't show up on the list as I haven't done one yet.

I dont know if its an option to do one online to start with or if its just online for safeguarding renewal. Soon enough someone will confirm

Echo what others have said, I was fairly shy and reserved when I first started refereeing and I am convinced that refereeing made me a much more confident person.

Two of the biggest things for me you learn from refereeing and I didn't see above are learning to deal with difficult people and conflict resolution. And if you have teenagers at home (or plan to), you need those skills, let alone needing them at a professional level.

Stakeholder management has always been one of the criteria when I have been looking for work. "I have been a football referee for a while" is one the first few things that I mention in job interviews (I have changed jobs 4 time in the last 6 years).

If you drive, I know that Shropshire were offering some - might be worth looking at Staffordshire too etc.
I don't have a car at the moment 😬. I'll ask around because an hour or so on the train isn't that bad but if I then had to do my 5 games up there too and then probably struggle getting games down here after itd probably be too much

You don't. My RDO couldn't find any games for me in the County so I went and sourced my own games in a neighbouring county. The only requirement is that you do 5 games

I've emailed all my local FA's and every response I've had so far is that they're cancelled for the rest of the year. Maybe since the second wave is here they've been cancelled country wide

Amateur FA (in London I think): Looks like they have weekend whole day sessions available - if you are going for the day, travelling into London from Brum isn't too difficult... LINK
Birmingham FA: Nothing available
Shropshire FA: Just had one on 19th October 2020 (no other bookings)
Staffordshire FA: Unsure
Worcester FA: Taking bookings for introduction evening (looks online for the rest) - LINK
Wiltshire FA: Taking bookings for 23/11 and Feb 2021 (may be worth asking if it is one day or more there - as if it is just a day, could travel for the day and do the rest online possibly? LINK

Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks a lot!
The Amateur FA one looks like there's 3 sessions each Sunday and to get there for 10am on a Sunday I'd have to leave at 5:30 according to Google Maps, so looks like that one is off! Wiltshire one looks like it's over 4 hours each way too even leaving now sadly. Looking at Worcester, that evening is booked and there's no more haha! Looks like it's not meant to be

Yep, sadly looks like all local FAs have no courses until 2021 earliest! Looks like I'll either have to wait or sit it out.
Thanks for the help anyway guys!

Unfortunately I would appear you may have to wait. With a 2nd lockdown now inevitable in the coming weeks I dont think you'll be missing much football anyway
