How much for a YC?

Does anyone know what a player/club gets fined for a yellow card?


I ask because, as you may know, I’m involved in schools’ football. In a recent cup competition two of our players were booked (C1, foul tackle for both. No complaints, correct decisions) and we’ve just received the paperwork.

For each, we (the school, not the student and, quite rightly, it is clear that the fee can’t be passed on to the student or family) have to pay £12 admin fee

Not quibbling, just curious, as to whether this (£12) is now the going rate for a YC. This was an U19 fixture. Is it a standard rate or does the cost go up depending on level?

No agenda, just interested in filling a gap in my knowledge.

It was £10 for years and has gone up to £12 for adult football only last season in Essex (suspect that's in part to recoup the % of fines that have been lost to sin bins). Not sure if/how that scales as you go down the age groups, but even so, for U19's I'd be expecting to pay the same as for OA football.

When my son was playing youth football and I was involved on the club committee I thought the club always paid for players' fines if they were under 18. I think, at most, all clubs can do is ask for a 'voluntary contribution'

Reading the above though, maybe it varies from club to club?

Am surprised at only £15 (£3 difference) for a red card. How does it work if it’s 2 yellows resulting in a red? Is it £12 (for first yc,) then £15 for red, what-about for a straight red?

I think that is technically only an "admin fee" - so most red card offences also carry a fine on top of that. Possibly not DOGSO or double-yellows, but for anything involving SFP, VC, OFFINABUS etc, I think you can easily find £30 of fine stuck on top of that fee as well?

Last red i rceieved was on about 2015 and it was £40 from memory. It was for SFP and was incredibly harsh! a few mins before there was a terrible tackle from a team mate who recieved a yellow and the ref got dogs abuse for the opposition for what shohldve been a straight forward red. Think he tried to make up for that mistake with me. Thats my version of events anyway and I'm sticking to it

It was paid for me by the club, as it was club policy that any cards for tackles, DOGSO etc were paid by the club. Any cards for dissent or violent conduct were paid for by the player. One manager i played for in a Sunday pub league made whoever got a card for dissent wash the kit

When I ran an adult club we would pay the fines for technical offences like reckless challenges, SPA or DOGSO. Bit if a player got cautioned for dissent, or sent off for OFFINABUS or VC they got billed for it.

When I played youth football (u15) last year my dad was billed £20 for when I was given a yellow for a foul tackle - he payed it because everyone there disagreed with the yellow and was because the ref was pressured into it by opposition managers.

The £15 for a dismissal must be the default, presumably increased when liability for a particular offense is determined

@PinnerPaul for my dad not to charge me for it says something ive always had to pay but not for this one but don’t worry I didn’t say anything at the time just accepted it and got on with the game as I wish players would

Yes, the County FA are only allowed to charge the admin fee for the YC. It used to be (1990's), that the fee was the same regardless of the club, so Professional clubs paid the same as the grassroots football. Sine then, Step 4 and above have been admin by the FA, so there fee may be different to the £12.

For RC, remember there is an element for the admin as well as the associated fine.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if players at the top level get hit with any financial penalty along with the cards?
