"He's got a right to go in for that"

Heard again on the commentary during Everton Arsenal and then Palace Leicester today.
Both times with forwards fouling goalkeepers.
It is really stupid stuff from commentators and does not help the viewing public IMHO.

It seems to have become a much-used idiom now. There is a scenario that looks 50/50 at first, keeper/defender takes the ball, attacker fouls, commentator "claims" it shouldn't be a foul because "he had a right to go in for the challenge"... NO!

He did have a right to go for it. Absolutely no right whatsoever to commit the foul.

Idiots.

I always love that one.

"Well, no, he doesn't have the right if he can't do it without a foul!"
Such bizarre logic....apparently studs up legbreakers or tackles going through the legs are supposed to be okay if they're the only way of winning the ball?

Pundits spreading nonsense? Never!

Of course the player has the right to go for the ball, but that doesn't give free reign to commit a foul!
