Half Time Sub

Im getting myself confused about what would happen if:

At half time, a team makes a sub but forget to inform the ref.

Im assuming the new "player" would get a YC for entering play without permission.

Would you also YC the player who went off at half time, and if you would, but he was already on a YC, would you allow the new "player" to stay on the field, given that the sub wasnt completed correctly and the person he swapped with is now on a RC?

Thanks

Depends I think on what level of football you are at.

At a game where both teams go back in the changing rooms at HT, then we ask on our way out... "Any changes?"

Most of the time, teams stay out on the FOP at HT, so again, we ask before we kick off.

Wouldn't book anyone if they entered/left the FOP during half-time, but can see where you are coming from.

Further up the ladder though, with 4th Officials etc, I would be more likely to insist everything is done properly before 2nd Half KO.

Here's a question, when a sub takes place at HT, do you record it as the 45th minute or the 46th?

By blowing for half-time you give the players permission to leave the FOP, so no caution for the player who was substituted.

Any problems prevented removed by asking the skippers as you come back out if they've made any changes. If you spot a sub has been made after you've kicked-off the second half then under Law the player who has come on should be cautioned.

@Matty - "HT"? If I had to record a number, I'd put 46.

Agree with Grayson. No caution for the substituted player, but a caution for the sub who's come on.

At Supply level, with NAR's, if I haven't had the chance to ask if there's been any subs at HT, I won't start 2nd half until senior AR has informed me there've been no changes.

Matty - I just write HT!!!

Apparently we have to put a 'number' down on the team cards lol. My thinking is it's '46' as you have completed 45 mins in the first half.

There was some discussion at a meeting on a similar matter when one ref had been recording late subs and goal times as '92' or '94' etc. He was told that a game of football is only 90 minutes long and there is no such thing as the 94th minute!

Interesting one there Matty! I've not come across this directly, as we don't have to report subs/goals, but if I was putting in a misconduct report I tend to turn it round and say '4 minutes into injury time' as that seems more precise. Otherwise it assumes that you stop the watch for every single thing, rather than just the key stoppages. Each to their own I guess, but it seems overly fussy to me!

lol... yeah, I know.

My reports would show that I have a very busy 89th and 90th minute!
