Gum Shields

Had a game last weekend where a player asked if they could wear a Gumshield. I couldn't remember anything in the LOTG that would give me a reason to say no so I allowed it.

Was this correct and are they allowed?

He said it was issues with his teeth, and yeah I couldn't see why it would cause any harm to anyone.

A lot of keepers routinely wear gum shields, Gomes at Watford is one top flight example.

I have no issues with players wearing gum shields, they're becoming more and more common and not just with goalkeepers.

gumshields offer the wearer physical protection and endanger nobody. Thus, I don’t se why not.

I actually had a player bite someone in a Saturday League game, drew blood and everything.

This one's pretty straightforward. Protective equipment is certainly allowed as long as it's not a danger to other players or gaining an unreasonable tactical advantage.

There's absolutely no question that these are allowed (had no idea what you were all talking about at first - we call the mouth guards down here)
