Goalkeeper sent off for punching own player

The Referee Store
Lesson to us all tho, look at that referee! Strolling around with his back to the players, his back to the ball, his back to his AR

well done AR for being alert because the referee is totally lacking in awareness

always keep as many players in view as you possibly can, a goal is the ultimate occasion in the game, emotions run high. not just for the svoring team

Not sure how the referee didn't think a GK running past him absolutely furious was worth keeping an eye on.
Also it wasn't even the midefielder's fault. The pass to him was what cost them possession.

Let me get this right.

The referee is being criticised for keeping an eye on a possible event which may happen once in 500 times, instead of looking out for the event which is 1 in 500,000?
Even the commentators can only recall one instance and that took place 14 years ago.

Harsh.

its about awareness in general

if you adopt the same basics to most parts of your game, being aware, keeping as many players, ball in view as can. as much as you can. you are at least giving yourself a chance

its horrendous watching grass roots refs at scoring of a goal walk away, back to everything
its unacceptable at higher levels.

what is this ref watching at this goal? nothing. zero. zilch,

nobody will ever see everything, but you certainly wont see if you dont look

Looking for the goal scorer?

He’s watching the team which is celebrating having scored a equalising goal. A team which is playing away and probably provoking a reaction from the home support. Watching to see if a player celebrates excessively and removes his shirt. In other words, the more likely event(s).
I’ve no doubt his pre match with his assistants included instruction for the AR to keep an eye on player reactions at a KMI.

This ref is officiating on the top tier league within his country and is certainly not watching nothing, zero, zilch. That’s such a disrespectful comment.

Can't blame the referee here. This is as the goal was scored, he's just come into view and the accepted approach here is to follow the goal scorer and teammates as that is where any confrontation is likely to occur.

He's done that, and the confrontation has happened behind his back as a result.

The only grumble I would have is that he didn't move quickly enough to move towards the likely flashpoint area, but that wouldn't have helped as it would have been the opposite direction to where the actual flashpoint happened. Team work has paid off as his assistant has obviously spotted it and the correct outcome bas been reached.
