New ref, just trying to clarify my understanding of the LOTG.

A forward can't challenge a 'bounce' that GK's sometimes do while running with ball during their 6 seconds prior to release? What about a GK that 'pats' down an incoming shot and then collects the ball as it bounces back?

I would say that until they have control of the ball (as per LOTG) then they do not have control. If they pat it down then it is not 'between the hands'.

Well done for checking.
If the goalkeeper "pats the ball down" it is in play and he can be challenged.
The referee has to look for the difference between a save in which the goalkeeper gets hand(s) to the ball and fails to hold it (in which case he can handle it again) and a "pat down" (when he can be penalised if he releases it into play by doing so and then handles again)

Can I just clarify though. If he's clearly in control of the ball, and then bounces the ball as part of his 'travelling with the ball' then this bounce can't be challenged.

I guess preventing GK release of ball - IFK (Answering Q about correct restart if striker nicks the ball of the keeper while he's in control)

Penalised unless it's Loris in the FA Cup final!
