i saw a comment on american referee group on Facebook

"My one exception to deliberate handling is I won't allow a goal scored by the hand.
Whether deliberate or not"

apparently FIFA (through Futuro) about disallowing every goal that comes of an attacker hand.

what are your thoughts on this. what are your thoughts on this.

It's probably the right idea - it's "what football expects" that you can't score a goal with your hand.

Impossible to justify within the parameters of the LOTG though currently.

My main question though is that position even compatible with the LOTG

We’re paid to make tough calls. Just do your job, if you think it’s deliberate, chalk off. If you don’t, forget the clamour, GOAL

on the Facebook page that i took this off there are whole lot of whole lot of whole who disagree with this and think every goal off a hand should be chalked off
Sounds like a whole lot of people who need to read the laws. Or need to grow a pair.
If it's accidental, the fact that it scored a goal is irrelevant

I agree with everyone who says that as the Laws stand, it's only illegal to score a goal with the hand if it's deliberate.

However, as I've mentioned several times previously, if we went back to something like the pre-1974 wording which precluded a goal being scored with the hand, I'm not sure too many people would object.

Just as a reminder, Law 10 up until then said that:
Except as otherwise provided by these Laws, a goal is scored when the whole of the ball has passed over the goal−line, between the goal−posts and under the cross−bar, provided it has not been thrown, carried or propelled by hand or arm, by a player of the attacking side, except in the case of a goalkeeper, who is within his own penalty−area.

Finally. Admiring it's a consideration (even a minor one). Job done.
Hehe, that’s a world of difference to ‘it’s hit his arm in an outstretched position, then it MUST be deliberate handball!’ The other minor considerations appertain too! 👍

@Sheffields Finest - what do you think to the proposal apparently under consideration by the IFAB (according to the de Telegraaf article referenced in another thread) to include a criterion regarding 'unnatural movement' of the hand/arm, rather than 'unnatural position'?

I’m not the Shef... but...

If IFAB put that on the laws, I think it’s a little awkward because there are cans of worms with: deliberate, natural and movement.

IMHO they should rewrite the handball law from scratch, remove deliberate, and instead make the law closer to the offside law i.e. make it about ”gaining an advantage”.

Haven’t seen it @Peter Grove ????
Well, that's about the size of it - it's a proposal (according to the afore-mentioned article) to give handling when there is an 'unnatural movement' of the hand or arm.

It's still going to be a subjective call as to what constitutes unnatural movement but I think I prefer it slightly over the 'unnatural position' criterion which although unofficial and not supported (IMO) by what the law says about hand/arm position, was frequently quoted and based on a lot of the decisions we've seen, frequently utilised by referees as a way to judge handling offences.

Seems absurd. Wtf does that actually mean? Will only make it more confusing.
Just call it careless and be done with it.
And include specific guidance on a bunch of things
